About us

Ron Hill

Ron has working experience throughout the education sector including being a primary school teacher, further education college lecturer, local authority education officer, college senior manager (tier 2), and has been a clerk to the corporation since 1993.

Ron has focused on college governance since 2002, including undertaking a number of funded research projects exploring aspects of college governance.  He is currently clerk to the corporation for two colleges in Yorkshire.

Ron is co-chair of the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Clerks Network .

Ron is co-leader of the ICSA Certificate in F.E. Governance (in partnership with Ian James) and also acts as an LSIS (Learning and Skills Improvement Service) Governance Associate.

Ron is Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield.

He lives in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Ian James

Ian has been a college clerk since 1989 taking his then employers (Sparsholt College Hampshire) through the process of incorporation in 1993.   

In 1997, he was one of the first people in the country to establish a clerkship and governance consultancy and since then he has acted as Clerk in 17 colleges at various times and has provided consultancy and training services to over 50 other colleges.

As well as providing more routine clerking services, Ian has specialised in clerking and assisting colleges in recovery and facilitating the governance aspects of college start-ups and mergers.  

Ian is co-leader of the ICSA Certificate in F.E. Governance (in partnership with Ron Hill) and also acts as an LSIS (Learning and Skills Improvement Service) Governance Associate.

Ian has participated in several research projects (with Ron Hill) and is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton
